The celebrations and overindulgences of Mardi Gras are officially over, and now we head into the Lenten season! If you didn’t already know, Lent is the religious six week period leading up to Easter that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday. Many people abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and the Fridays during this period. If you observe Lent, then the good news is you’re in the right city, with an overabundance of fresh and delicious seafood options! Here at Bar Frances, we have several options on our menus that you would hardly call a sacrifice if you are looking to enjoy a Lent-friendly meal this season:
Yes, we serve brunch on Fridays here! For a unique treat this Lenten season, come join us for Friday Brunch and try Bar Frances’ delicious House Smoked Salmon and Eggs. The dish includes poached eggs, sourdough, mascarpone, dill, gremolata, and sugared beets. Or if you’re looking for something more indulgent, another great brunch option is the Brioche French Toast, served with seasonal preserves and a sweet Chantilly cream. For a grown-up take on a childhood classic, give our Grilled Cheese with gruyère, goat cheese, and fig preserves a try. It’s served with a green salad, but we wouldn’t judge if you added a side of our Hand Cut French Fries with aioli dipping sauce!
Our meat-free dinner options are perfect to enjoy one Friday this Lenten season, and a welcome change to your usual fried catfish plate! Come enjoy dining on our patio while you share some small plates with your family and friends. One of our favorite small plates is the Shrimp Arrabiata Rigatoni, that comes with perfectly seasoned spicy ground shrimp, blistered market tomatoes, oregano, basil, crispy capers, lemon, and Saba. The Tuna Tartare is another fresh favorite, with goji berries, lemon pepita vinaigrette, and taro root chips. If you are looking for some lighter fare, we suggest you try the Baby Greens Salad, served with Louisiana strawberries, torn herbs, parmesan, and sunflower seeds topped with a pink peppercorn vinaigrette.
As long as you didn’t decide to give up alcohol for Lent, we also want to invite you to enjoy our unrivaled Happy Hour, which is Sunday-Wednesday from 4-7pm and Thursday-Saturday 4-6pm. Enjoy a craft cocktail or one of our natural wines with the Whipped Feta, or the P.E.I. Mussels with pistachio pesto, malt vinegar, and dill chips.
